The Involvement of Germany
Allies were created to form strong military forces, and Germany was allied with the Central Powers
The creation of the system of alliance was the start of all the causes for the first World War. Germany was part of The Central Powers, along with Austria-Hungary and Italy, who remained neutral throughout the war. The Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers in 1914 with their new alliance with Germany (The Ottoman Empire Enters WWI on the side of the Central Powers 1914, WebChron). The other alliance was The Triple Entente or the Allied Powers which included Great Britain, France, and Russia (Causes of World War I, History Learning Site). When the heir of the Austro-Hungarian, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated by a Serbian group, Austria-Hungary declared war at Serbia and Russia. Due to Germany’s alliance with Austria-Hungary, it was the loyal thing for Germany to enter the war and support them against Serbia and Russia. And with Russia being a part of The Triple Entente, Great Britain and France did the same thing to help defend them and entered the war to support Russia in the war. (The Causes of World War I, First World War). Even though Germany didn't start the war, they were the strongest of the Central Powers and most determined to win. German soldiers kept fighting against the Allies even after Austria-Hungary surrendered in October 29,1918 (The Minor Powers During World War One, First World War) and Germany surrendered a month later in November 11, 1918 (Germany Surrenders: WWI is over 1918, Click America). Some of the major battles that Germany was involved in was the battles of the Marne. Germany was advancing towards Paris, but they were stopped by French, British and some American troops. On both sides of this battle, hundreds of men died fighting on the defensive side and on the oncoming side as well. Germany then advance towards Paris again four years later in 1918, but the same things occurred and had to retreat (Major Battles of WWI, Home Zonnet).
